“Whole Foods Market features EnVino Bottles in Green Design Store Display”
BURLINGAME, California (July 14th, 2011) – Whole Foods recently opened its fifth store in the East Bay at 3502 Mt. Diablo Boulevard in Lafayette, California. Close to 25,000 square feet, the store’s unique displays showcase the company’s commitment to green design. These sustainable design elements include a glycol refrigeration system, a reflective roof and glass dairy doors with LED lights. In addition, all wood fixtures and wood cladding throughout the store are made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified Wood. The FSC standards represent the world’s strongest system for guiding forest management toward sustainable outcomes.
EnVino Bottles were also used to construct a compelling green store display. Created by Commercial Design Systems (CDS) in Portland, Oregon, this company designs, manufactures and installs retail fixtures. CDS used on 1Liter Dead Leaf Green EnVino Bottles to create a unique curtain that separates the wine and cheese sections of the store. CDS designer Anne Nordling explains,
“This concept was developed in collaboration with Gabrielle Rosi (Whole Foods Market Senior Deign Coordinator) to create a divider wall between two departments and to draw attention to the creative reuse of common everyday materials. Glass bottles were originally introduced to the design as a solution to maintain a consistent line of sight throughout the store and to bring in an element from the adjacent wine department. After careful consideration, it was decided that glass presented a safety hazard due to the unpredictable nature of California’s seismic activity. After a bit of research, Envino plastic bottles were brought to the table and solved the problems with regards to safety and weight. In addition, they were a great substitution while still maintaining the sustainability factor we always strive to implement.”
EnVino Bottles are designed as premium, sustainable packaging for specialty food and wine products, but have carved out a niche as props for theater groups, television sets and retail displays.
